ABOUT CAROLINE

Caroline Boykin has been creating art professionally for over 13 years. She is inspired by the spirit of everyday life and a love for a sense of place. Elements of nature, architecture, and form combine in many mediums to create a tension of weight in color and balance the delicacy of subject. Her flowers, wether porcelain or implied through color and form, are in full bloom. Each painting is focused on internal strength and external beauty. The handmade flowers are having a conversation with each other through petal placement and shadows, just as her literal figures interact through body language. The intent is not to be precious but to pull the viewer into a conversation of life and movement.

Caroline has found that her work has always been figurative and relating to human interactions. In the newest “Le Pointe” work Caroline has striped away all of the confinements of subject. She is giving the viewer the opportunity to decipher subject through color interaction and her intuitive and meditative mark making. The squares represent the boxes we put ourselves in; the boxes that we as a society place each other in. The forms and textures interact and contrast with each other, just as literal figures do. The viewer finds emotion through her mesmerizing textures and intuitive mark making. From afar the progression of sizes in squares speak calm and inviting. But as the viewer moves closer, the bodies of color become layered and intricate. We find our own unique and unpredictable emotions within the boxes, mirroring our human experience and how living things interact with each other.

Caroline recieved her BFA from the University of Mississippi with an emphasis in ceramics, as well as spending a summer studying at Florence University of the Arts in Florence, Italy. Her work has been published and featured in major publications including Elle Decor, Southern Living, Flower, Luxe Interiors, along with many others. Today Caroline lives and works in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband and two children.
